About the School
Stenhus Gymnasium: an IB World School
Stenhus Gymnasium is located in Holbæk approximately 65 km outside of Copenhagen. You have easy access to Copenhagen as the fast train from Holbæk Station to Copenhagen Central Station only takes 40 minutes.
Stenhus Gymnasium in Holbæk was established in 1906 and is today one of Denmark’s largest ”gymnasiums” with approximately 1300 students and almost 150 university trained teachers. The facilities of the school are absolutely superb as the school has recently been renovated and extended with new buildings in a modern and bright architecture, which has created open space for all sorts of study activities.
When our students have finished their schooling at Stenhus Gymnasium, they are in possession of:
School values
At Stenhus Gymnasium we emphasize tolerance, mutual respect and a proper tone amongst students and staff.
Our students participate in the decision making and they are co-responsible for their own teaching.
Accordingly, we expect students to take responsibility for their own education, work actively and show respect for each other.
Being a student at Stenhus Gymnasium is more than just attending classes. The two or three years at school also include after school activities in a creative and innovative setting where new initiatives blossom.
As a student you can meet in a community of interests with other students – it is, for example, possible to stage a musical, play in a band, arrange music cafés, spend time in art workshops, participate in theatrical productions, play soccer, badminton, basketball, volleyball, and participate in various tournaments.
To conclude, Stenhus Gymnasium contributes in meeting society’s needs for young people to develop from students into becoming undergraduates and becoming competent, democratic citizens in the Danish society and in a globalized world.
Note: The word ”gymnasium” is the word used in the Scandinavian countries, and corresponds to the American “High School”, i.e. 10th to 12th grades, or to the British “Sixth Form College”, i.e. years 11-13.
